June 7-9, 2010: Saving Mothers’ Nichole Young-Lin was at the Women Deliver 2010 Conference where over 3,000 policymakers, nonprofit leaders, health care professionals and advocates gathered to discussed women’s health, education and empowerment. The conference opened with a keynote address from Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon. Throughout the day, notable figures such as Melinda Gates spoke on the importance of investing in women. At the center of many topics was Millennium Development Goal 5 (MDG5), which aims to reduce maternal mortality by 75% from 1990 to 2015.
Although maternal mortality rates have shown some decline, many countries are still not on track to reaching MDG5. Saving Mothers and other organizations are working hard to ensure that women around the world receive the health care that they deserve.
