The Columbia University Chapter of Saving Mothers seeks to increase awareness of issues regarding maternal and infact mortality through a number of student-run projects. Through our birthing kit initiative, we assemble and distribute birthing kits to promote safe, hygienic deliveries. Through our research network, we aim to collect information about the drug misoprostol, which can treat and even prevent postpartum hemorrhage &mdash one of the major causes of maternal mortality. And through our collaboration with various national organizations, including the Sierra Club and the International Women's Health Coalition, we hope to spread awareness about and raise money to prevent and ameliorate devastating medical conditions like obstetric fistulae. The Columbia Saving Mothers Chapter is extremely excited about the future of the organization and its potential global impact.
