Supported by the Associated Students of the University of California, the UC Berkeley Chapter of Saving Mothers is dedicated to raising awareness of international maternal health issues. According to the United Nations Population Fund, a mother dies every minute during childbirth. For every life lost, 20 more women experience serious complications, which range from chronic infections to disabling injuries, like obstetric fistulae. Cal's Saving Mothers Chapter hosts film screenings and fundraisers and distributes information about this crucial issue.
